It’s been hard for us to sleep at night ever since we signed on to sponsor the Costa Mesa Speedway Series for the 2011 season. Sure, Performance Machine has been active in many aspects of motorcycle racing over the years, but now we’re wrapping ourselves up in a tradition that takes place right here in our own backyard.
The Costa Mesa Speedway, which is located on the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, Calif., hosted its first motorcycle race back in the summer of 1969, a period of time when surfing rose to the forefront of Southern California sports. At the same time, skateboarding, BMX and motocross were picking up steam with the area’s middle class sportsmeisters, and Costa Mesa soon became the motorcycle Mecca for local riders, attracting standing-room only crowds by 1971.
So we’re making plans to celebrate our sponsorship status by hosting a Night at the Races for all of our PM employees and their families as part of our annual Employee Appreciation Week. The season opens with the Spring Classic on May 7.
We’ll have a PM booth at select events, and race-goers are reminded to hang on to your ticket stubs in order to enter a weekly drawing for PM parts. We’ll also have a season-long drawing for a set of shiny new PM wheels.
